Rita was born April 20, 1938, in Owensboro, Kentucky, to Herbert Xavier and Marie (Roby) Payne.
Rita grew up in Knottsvile, Kentucky. She attended Daviess County High School.
Rita married Lowell Richard Stiff Sr. on November 26, 1955 at the age of 17.
They had 12 children together and were married for 64 years. They raised their children in Owensboro and were members of the St. Joseph and Paul Catholic Church community. Daughters: Valerie Webb (Mike), Felecia Stiff, both of Owensboro, and Monica Scott (Steve) of Philpot; Sons: Rick Stiff (Karen) of Whitesville, Perry Stiff (Debbie) of Owensboro, Scott Stiff (Kathy) of Whitesville, Keith Stiff (Rae) of Owensboro, Kevin Stiff (Carolyn) of Sarasota, FL, Mark Stiff, Matt Stiff, Brian Stiff (Cyndi) and Chris Stiff (Erin), all of Owensboro; Thirty-two grandchildren; sixty-nine great-grandchildren; A sister-in-law, Patricia Briley (Charles) of Coarsegold, CA; A brother-in-law, David Stiff (Connie) of Morro Bay, CA; Many nieces, nephews and friends. Rita's husband Richard Stiff passed away in 2020. |
