The Last Words Of A Corpse
Florence E. Stiff
As I lay here so cold and so lifeless,
Looking up, though my eyelids are closed,
I see all the friends and family around me
In respect for the body in repose.
You have come and have looked and you wonder,
For you know not the journey I've been
On the road to peace and contentment
Waiting for this earthly life to end.
With all of the trials and tribulations
And crosses that were so hard to bear,
I offered all to the Father in Heaven
In thanks and in one solemn prayer
I ask only that you all to be given
Time to find in this life if you can
The happiness I knew before I lay here,
Then we'll meet in that far distant land.
Now close the top of the coffin down o'er me
Let me down in the cold cold clay,
Remember me and walk onward and upward
each one in your own special way.
