Loneliness Is King

Florence E. Stiff

It's all over but the crying
I have loved and have lost
Although I tried my very best
I could not pay the cost.
I always thought a game was played
According to the rules
But I have learned to my dismay
Fair play is just for fools.
While my eyes were for you only
Yours inclined to stray
And when we shared each others kiss
You seemed so far away.
Yet tho' you had no other love
While ours was growing cold
Still you were not contented
And so the story's told
Time raced on its merry way
I clung to the last string
Then one day you went away
Now loneliness is king.
